Toledo Lighthouse Restoration Plans

RESTORATION INFORMATION

The Toledo Harbor Lighthouse Society hired the firm of Duket , Porter and Associates who assisted in filing an application to own the lighthouse on September 20, 2005.  The firm will guide and define the restoration efforts.

On October 5, 2006, the Secretary of the Interior approved the Toledo Harbor Lighthouse Preservation  Society application for ownership.

There is a grant from the Lake Erie Protection for a dock and boat ramp.  The docke and ramp were installed in October 2008.

A documentary with public television on the lighthouse, the Maumee, Ottawa and Western Lake Erie waters is about two thirds complete and needs additional funding for completion.

Plans and specifications for the restoration are underway thanks to a grant from Ohio Coastal Zone and another grant from the Lake Erie Protection Fund.  The plans for the exterior of the lighthoouse are nearly complete.  Plans for the infrastructure are underway

The   estimated cost of restoration is $1 million which will include infrastructure (marine and green), window  replacement and shutters, staircase restoration, and other items that will make the lighthouse like it used to be when it was occupied.
